Information for RefugeesAre you a refugee or other category of forced migrant living in Scotland? Student Action for Refugees (STAR) Dundee are running a befriending service called LINK, where you can connect with a befriender over video chats, phone calls and messages. LINK aims to reduce the isolation that many people experience after arriving in a new country. We hope to create a positive experience of Scotland and everything it has to offer. Through conversations with your befriender you can learn a bit more about the local culture, practice your English-speaking skills and make a new friend!

There are three ways to send a referral:
To use this service, you need to be:
The Process
When you are referred for the scheme we will contact you to discuss your preferences and expectations. After this we link you with a befriender who will contact you for frequent social chats. The befriender is a volunteer who is giving their time to help and befriend forced migrants living in Scotland. The befriender cannot give you official advice (e.g. on government processes) but they may be able to tell you who to contact regarding these queries.
The amount of time that the befrienders spend with you depends on their availability, but we will ask what times are best for you and let you know how frequently the befriender will call and how long they can spend speaking to you.
When you sign up for the service, you can decide the gender of befriender that you would like to speak to. If you have any other specific requests we will do our best to accommodate these.
